Our Story

Following a move out of London to a small Yorkshire village (and hence away from the convenience of having every shop imaginable on the doorstep) I started to buy more and more of my gifts online. The only problem was that they always tended to arrive wrapped in a piece of crumpled bubble wrap, stuffed in an old box or jiffy bag! If it was even possible to add a message for the recipient, it tended to be a printed scrap of paper, stuck to the box! Given this dubious presentation it made it impossible to send a gift directly to my friend or relative. I therefore ended up having it sent to myself, opening it, re-wrapping it and then having to make a trip to the Post Office in the village (which unfortunately closed down shortly after our arrival, necessitating a 5 minute drive to get to the Post Office in the neighbouring village) to re-send it! Hardly suitable for someone who usually buys things at the last minute.

It was from this experience that the idea for Gift Philosophy came about. I wanted to create a way for people who love giving stylish gifts to be able to find and send a gorgeous, high quality gift online and to be sure that it arrives quickly and as beautifully presented as it would do had they wrapped and delivered it themselves.

My next dilemma was what sort of gifts would be tasteful, stylish and thoughtful, as well as suitable for every occasion, from christenings and weddings, to birthdays and Christmas' I'd always ended up with the staple bunch of flowers in the past, but really wanted Gift Philosophy to provide a solution that was more imaginative, as well as lasting longer than a week.

So, we started with our range of gorgeous photo frames and decided that offering a complimentary service whereby our customers can include a photo, that we have professionally printed and inserted into the frame, would mean our gifts were personal, as well as thoughtful. The simple photo upload feature on our site, means that customers can quickly and easily send us one of their own photographs and therefore create a personalised photo gift in moments.

Beautiful packaging and presentation had to be synonymous with the Gift Philosophy brand, so we have sourced the best manufacturers to make our gift boxes. Every gift arrives encased in our signature, lime-green tissue paper, chocolate brown gift box & wrapping, hand-tied with ribbon. Our gift cards are always hand-written, further adding to the feeling that a lot of care and thought has gone into the gift.

The option to personalise our gifts has proved so popular, that over the last year we have sourced additional products to add to our range, all of which can hold a photo, of course. Our new products include wallets, purses and leather photo holders from British company Smith & Canova; a solid silver trinket box and money box for little ones, to photo albums and keepsake boxes. We're always on the lookout for new ideas and have plans to keep regularly introducing new items.

I believe that we have now created a way for you to be able to buy and send a tasteful and truly personalised gift from the comfort of your home.
